Department of Public Safety (DPS)

The Arkansas Department of Public Safety (ADPS) ensures the citizens' safety and security through emergency management, law enforcement, and support services. The DPS is also in charge of issuing Alarm Licenses for contractors in Arkansas. The licensing process includes the submission of miscellaneous documents, a general background check, and a fingerprint information submittal for all the licenses, except for Restricted and Unrestricted Alarm Systems Company Class E Licenses. In addition to the above, the Company Manager must take a course from one of the following organizations: NICET, NESA, Elite CEU or ESA; and pass an examination administered by the Arkansas State Police. The Department supervises different alarm-related trades:

  • Alarm Manager
  • Alarm Systems Agent (AGT)
  • Alarm Systems Apprentice (AA)
  • Alarm Systems Company Class E-M
  • Alarm Systems Company Class E-S
  • Alarm Systems Monitor (AM)
  • Alarm Systems Technician (AT)
  • General Class G
  • Restricted Alarm Systems Company Class E
  • Unrestricted Alarm Systems Company Class E

How to Get an Alarm License in the State of Arkansas?

  1. Fill out an application form for the chosen license:
  2. Verify the Manager examination requirements if the application is for a Company E License
  3. Gather the following documents listed on the application:
  4. Submit the completed application, along with the fees and the required documents, by check or money order to the following address:

  5. Await for an answer from the Department of Public Safety regarding the license issuance

State Fire Marshal’s Office

The State Fire Marshal's Office grants permits for above-ground storage tanks used for combustible, flammable, and hazardous materials as well as licenses to businesses and individuals working in the fireworks' industry. The Office regulates the following trades:

  • Retail Fireworks
  • Pyrotechnic Shooter

How to Obtain a State Fire Marshal’s Office License in Arkansas?

  1. Open an account on the Enterprise Licensing and Permitting (ELP) System
  2. Fill out the online application form
  3. Pay the applicable fees according to the Firework Statute
  4. Expect a response from the State Fire Marshal’s Office regarding the license approval
