Texas Tradesman Plumber - Limited Contractor License

The Tradesman Plumber - Limited Contractor License allows you to do the following work under the supervision of a Responsible Master Plumber:

• Work on a job that involves a structure other than a one or two-family dwelling only under the direct supervision of a licensed Journeyman or Master Plumber
• Plumbing for one and two-family dwellings:
  • Construction
  • Installation
  • Repair
  • Service
  • Renovation
  • Plumber’s Apprentice supervision

How to Get a Tradesman Plumber - Limited License in Texas?

1. Comply with the following Eligibility Requirements:
   • Be a citizen or a national of the United States, or an alien or non-immigrant
   • Hold a Journeyman Plumber or Master Plumber License issued by another State, or be registered as a Plumber Apprentince in Texas
   • Have 4,000 hours of experience in the plumbing industry as a minimum and complete a 24-hour Training Course recognized by the TSBPE
     • If the candidate holds a Journeyman or Master Plumber License issued in another state, there is no need to complete the 24-hour Training Program
2. Determine how to send the application for the Tradesman Plumber - Limited License:
   • Online:
     1. Create a user (log-in if already created) on the Online Licensing System of the TSBPE to apply online for the Tradesman Plumber - Limited Examination
     2. Click “choose an application” in the Manage Your License Information section and then select the exam to be taken from the drop-down menu
     3. Confirm all the personal information
     4. Receive a notice of authorization to test
     • Applications submitted online are processed and approved considerably faster than those sent via US Mail
   • Paper:
     1. Send a Tradesman Plumber - Limited License Application to the Board for the Examination process with the following documents:
        • Tradesman Plumber - Limited Examination Application(s)
        • Employer Certification Form(s)
3. Submit the Fingerprint Information (this is a one-time requirement, there is no need to resubmit if done in the past)
4. Pay the corresponding license fee to the TSBPE
5. When your application is approved by the TSBPE, you will receive an email from Pearson Vue© that includes detailed instructions on how to schedule your Computer-Based Test
6. Once the CBT is passed, the Board will provide further instructions to complete the licensure process via email. Applicants can access detailed information regarding the examination process and rules on the TSBPE landing page within the test provider website
7. Expect an answer from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) after the licensure process has been successfully completed
