Texas Journeyman Industrial Electrician License

The Journeyman Industrial Electrician License provides the licensee with authorization to perform the following work:

• Electrical labor in businesses that operate:
  • Chemical plants
  • Petrochemical plants
  • Refineries
  • Natural gas plants
  • Natural gas treating plants
  • Pipelines
  • Oil and gas exploration and production operations

Journeyman Industrial Electrician MAY NOT perform residential or commercial electrical work. The Journeyman Industrial Electrician license is a limited license and NOT the equivalent of a Journeyman Electrician license. Industrial operations include chemical, petrochemical, natural gas and natural gas treating plants, refineries, pipeline, or oil and gas exploration businesses. Journeyman Industrial Electricians MAY NOT use their experience towards a Master Electrician license.

How to Complete a Journeyman Industrial Electrician Application in Texas?

1. Comply with the training requirements: at least eight thousand verified hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a Master Electrician
   • This experience needs to be documented on an Experience Verification Form that must be sent with the Application Form by the supervisor
   • If the direct Master Electrician under whose supervision the work was conducted is not able to fill out the form, the candidate may contact the Electrical Contractor organization, or use the License Search to locate them
2. Turn in a filled out Journeyman Industrial Electrician License Application Form with the corresponding non-refundable fee. This form must be sent to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation P.O Box 12157 in Austin, Texas 78711-2157
3. Schedule an exam with PSI© once the Department has received, verified and approved the application. More information regarding the Electrician Exam can be found on the Electrician Examination Information page
4. Applicants may schedule a retake with PSI© within 24 to 48 hours in the case the exam is failed. This process can be repeated for one year after turning in the application
5. Await for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to give a response once the application and examination results are completed and reviewed
