Texas Asbestos Inspector License

The Asbestos Inspector License allows you to do the following work:

  • Conduct an asbestos survey in a public building
  • Determine the location and assess the condition of suspect ACWM in a public building
  • Develop an asbestos survey report
  • Decide that Asbestos-Containing Building Material ACBM is present in a public building by collecting bulk samples of suspected ACBM or assuming the suspected ACBM is Asbestos-Containing Material (ACM)
  • Be employed by a Licensed Asbestos Consultant Agency or a Licensed Asbestos Management Planner Agency to perform an asbestos survey in a public building

How to Get the Asbestos Inspector License in Texas?

  1. Comply with the requirements set forth for Asbestos Inspector:
    • Proof of passing the Department’s examination for Asbestos Inspectors, please check the Calendar Dates and the Exam Registration Document
      • Registration will only be granted after receiving the examination fee, the registration form, a copy of valid training certificates, and any other documents
    • Evidence of work experience participating in at least 5 Asbestos Abatement Surveys under the supervision of an approved Asbestos Licensee - experience must be gained after completing the Initial Training Course
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • 2-inch by 2-inch color photo (applicant’s face) with white background
    • DSHS Physician’s Written Statement signed by a Doctor within the last 12 months
    • Initial Asbestos Inspector Training Certificate and ID (if applicable)
    • Evidence of any Asbestos Inspector Refresher Training Certificates and Training IDs (if applicable) obtained before submission of application
  2. Determine if the Asbestos Inspector Application is available online
  3. Pay the corresponding application fee
  4. Await for a response from the Department after the application has been validated

To be approved to register for an exam, applicants must submit an Asbestos State Examination Registration Form, the exam fee, a copy of any appropriate training certificates, and all other required documents requested by the Department of State Health Services.
