Connecticut Limited Well Casing Extension (W-5) Contractor License

The Limited Well Casing Extension (W-5) Contractor License allows you to do work with Well Casing including:

• Repair
• Extension
• Maintenance

The registrant is ONLY authorized to repair the well casing extension and is not permitted to work on any other components of the well.

How to Get the Limited Well Casing Extension (W-5) Contractor’s License in Connecticut?

1. Visit the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) website to read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation requirements for obtaining a Limited Well Casing Extension (W-5) Contractor License. Follow the process held in the DCP Well Drilling Informational Page
2. Meet the necessary education requirements requested by the DCP
   • Required courses for high school graduation or GED test
   • Have held the CT Limited (J-1) or the Unlimited Plumbing (P-1) Contractor license for a total of two (2) years prior to applying
3. Apply online, by visiting the State of Connecticut's eLicense website or send by mail the Occupational Trade Well Driller Application to the DCP official email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the following documents:
   • Criminal Conviction Worksheet, when requested
   • Copy of respective Connecticut Journeyperson license and the date first issued
   • Receipt for payment of the non-refundable application fee by check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut"
   • For military service experience and training related to this application, contact the CT Department of Labor at (860) 263-6128 to request a recommendation
   • When applying for equivalent experience and training, including all documentation that demonstrates experience and training for this license type:
     • For Limited Well Casing Extension (W-5) license equivalency, applicants holding out-of-state license(s) shall provide:
       • Educational transcripts or diplomas
       • Certificates from completed courses
       • Copies of any licenses you may hold in another state
       • Notarized letters from employers demonstrating on-the-job training
4. Schedule the Limited Well Casing Extension (W-5) administered by PSI© in the desired location and time and pay the examination fee after receiving the DCP examination approval (the exam must be taken within one year from the date of approval):
   • Take and pass the Limited Well Casing Extension (W-5) and the Business and Law exams
   • If both exams are passed, submit the license fee along with the exam passing score results to obtain the official contractor license
5. Await the official Limited Well Casing Extension (W-5) Contractor License issued by the Department of Consumer Protection
