Washington Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C) Contractor License
The Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:
- Maintenance, repair, or replacement of:
- Like-in-kind existing electrical utilization equipment
- All permit exempted work except for the replacement or repair of circuit breakers
- Work limited to:
- Equipment and circuits to a maximum of 277 volts and 20 amperes for lighting branch circuits only
- Maximum 250 volts and 60 amperes for other circuits
- Replacement of luminaires limited to:
- In-place replacement required by failure of the luminaire to operate
- Relocation of Luminaires installed in suspended lay-in tile ceilings providing:
- The original field installed luminaire supply whip is not extended or relocated to a new supply point
- A manufactured wiring assembly supplies luminaire power, a luminaire may be relocated no more than eight feet providing the manufactured wiring assembly circuiting is not changed
- Disconnection and reconnection of:
- Low-voltage control and line voltage supply whips not over six feet in length provided:
- There are no modifications to the characteristics of the branch circuit
- Low-voltage control and line voltage supply whips not over six feet in length provided:
- "Electrical equipment" does not include:
- Electrical conductors
- Raceway or conduit systems external to the equipment or whip
The Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C) licensees CANNOT perform any plumbing work.
How to Get the Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C) Contractor’s License in Washington?
- Be an electrical trainee or have equivalent out-of-state or military experience
- Meet the experience and training requirements (You can use the Washington Department of Labor & Industries' tool to verify the hours of experience):
- Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C):
- 2,000 hours of work experience related to the selected specialty as an electrical trainee
- 24 hours of basic classroom instruction
- Be supervised 75% of the time
- Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C):
- Fill out the corresponding application form for the electrical examination:
- In-State Application for Electrical Examination for Journey Level or 4,000-hour electricians
- Electrical Specialty Application Form for 2,000-hour electricians
- Out-of-State Application for Electrical Examination
- Mail the application and the documents needed to certify the experience required for each license to:
