How to Get the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Class C Contractor’s License in Texas?

  1. Meet the following experience and education requirements:
    • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
    • Two years of work experience; at least one half of the work experience must be obtained in the specific field of the requested license
      • Thirty-two semester hours of College or forty additional hours of Training may substitute one year of work experience
      • Sixteen semester hours of College or twenty additional hours of Approved Training may substitute six months of work experience
  2. Submit an online Wastewater Operator Application Form and license fee to the TCEQ
  3. Register for an exam at your Local TCEQ Regional Office or your Local Computer-Based Testing Center
  4. Expect a response from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) after the validation of the process

All candidates for licensing must fulfill the pre-approval requirements stated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, before they can register to present the computer-based test. Following authorization, applicants may take the initial test plus up to three retests over the course of one year at the corresponding Registered Test Center. Access to the license exam will not be granted if the candidate does not qualify to retake the test. Depending on the testing location, applicants who fail the initial test may retake it (once) immediately and on the same day, but they shall return on another date to attempt the other three of the four chances that are given.
