The Surface Water Operator Class B Contractor License grants official authorization to conduct related work such as:
- Implement a safety program in the workplace; conduct tailgate safety sessions
- Perform basic chemical laboratory analyses
- Interpret results of lab tests
- Make adjustments to treatment processes to achieve the desired outcome
- Conduct bacteriological examinations
- Diagnose and correct complex problems regarding storage and distribution
- Optimize chlorine usage in the water system
How to Get the Surface Water Operator Class B Contractor’s License in Texas?
- Comply with one of the following combinations of educational and work experience requirements established by the Commission for Surface Water Operator Class B Contractor:
- Option 1
- A Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, engineering, microbiology, bacteriology, or another similar discipline as approved by the TCEQ Executive Director
- Thirty months of hands-on experience; at least one half the experience must be obtained in the specific field for the requested license
- Option 2
- High School or General Equivalency Diploma
- Five years of work experience, three of which must be hands-on; at least one half of the experience must be obtained in the specific field of the requested license
- Sixty-four semester hours of College or eighty additional hours of Valid Training may replace two years of work experience
- Thirty-two semester hours of College or forty hours of Approved Courses to replace one year of working experience
- Option 1
- Register for an exam at your Local TCEQ Regional Office or your Local Computer-Based Testing Center
- Take and pass the applicable examination
- Await for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality notification once the application process has been successfully completed
