Texas Pump Installer License

The Pump Installer License authorizes the holder to conduct the following work:

  • Install and repair well pumps and related equipment

How to Get the Pump Installer License in Texas?

  1. Have a minimum of two years of relevant experience under the supervision of a Licensed Pump Installer and provide evidence of employment history alongside the Application Form by asking all supervising Pump Installers involved to fill out the Well Driller/Pump Installer Experience Verification Form. Multiple copies of this form can be used
  2. Submit a completed Well Driller and or Pump Installer License Application Form with the corresponding non-refundable fee
  3. Expect the PSI© notification once the application has been received, reviewed and approved, to schedule a date and place for the exam
  4. Pass the General Pump Installer examination before applying to take any of the exams related to endorsements to be licensed as a Pump Installer Contractor
  5. Await for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to give a response once the application and examination results are completed and reviewed

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has made it possible for licensed Texas Pump Installer Contractors who have passed the General Pump Installer exam to upgrade the scope of their license by acquiring additional Endorsements. These Endorsements will grant them the opportunity to conduct activities related to specific lines of work. The application process for either of these Endorsements follows the same structure as the one explained above, but requires for the applicant to select the exam(s) corresponding to the Endorsement(s) of their interest instead of the General Pump Installer examination.

  • Select at least one endorsement for the license of choice (applicants must also demonstrate completion of fifteen installations under supervision of a Licensed Pump Installer for either of the listed endorsements):
    • Single Phase Pump (P)
    • Three Phase Pump (K)
    • Turbine Pump (T)
    • Windmill, Pump Jack, Hand Pump
