Texas Journeyman Lineman Electrician License

The Journeyman Lineman Electrician License allows the holder to conduct:

  • Maintenance and operation of equipment associated with the electricity, including:
    • Transmission
    • Distribution from the original source to a substation
    • Further dispensation

The Journeyman Lineman license is a limited license, and it is NOT equivalent to a Journeyman Electrician license.

A Licensed Journeyman Lineman Electrician is allowed to perform electrical work that is related to the maintenance and operation of equipment involved in the transmission and distribution of electricity from the source to a substation for further distribution.

How to Submit a Journeyman Lineman Electrician License Application?

  1. Comply with the training requirements: seven thousand hours of training with an United States Department of Labor approved apprenticeship program. The validity of the program can be verified on the approved providers list
    • As an alternative, the candidate has the possibility to apply demonstrating three and a half years of experience as a Journeyman Lineman for an electric utility, electric cooperative, municipally owned, or Electrical Contractor in Texas
  2. Turn in a filled out Journeyman Lineman License Application Form with the corresponding non-refundable fee. This form must be sent to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation P.O Box 12157 in Austin, Texas 78711-2157
  3. Schedule an exam with PSI© once the Department has received, verified and approved the application. More information regarding the Electrician Exam can be found on the Electrician Examination information page
  4. Applicants may schedule a retake with PSI© within 24 to 48 hours in the case the exam is failed. This process can be repeated for one year after turning in the application
  5. Await for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to give a response once the application and examination results are completed and reviewed
