The Boiler Inspector License permits the licensee to be employed by an inspection agency and perform related activities such as:

• Inspect the following, internally and externally, at the time of initial installation and at subsequent established intervals:
  • Power, unfired steam, hot water supply, portable and nuclear boilers
  • Steam collection or liberation drums of process steam generators
  • Potable water heaters

How to Get the Boiler Inspector License in Texas?

Inspectors in Texas must be “Commissioned” to conduct inspections of boiler equipment within State territory. In order to be eligible for being Commissioned as a Boiler Inspector with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, an Inspector must:

1. Be employed with the TDLR or with a registered Authorized Inspection Agency. The department has made available for the public a List of Registered Authorized Inspection Agencies (AIA)
2. Submit a filled out Boiler Inspector Commission Application Form with the corresponding non-refundable fee
3. Pass the Boiler Examination with PSI©. Once the application has been submitted, reviewed and approved, the testing vendor will reach out to the applicant to schedule the appointment, the associated fee will need to be paid directly to PSI© before the exam date
4. After the test results are validated by the Department, the applicant will receive an official notification regarding further instructions for the licensure emission process
5. Attend a Department-approved Boiler Orientation Program
