Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Class B Contractor License Exams
Below is all the information related to the trade exams, including the official reference lists. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation TDLR has determined that the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program licenses should be divided in Class A and Class B. Class A licenses for this program allow the holder to work on units of any size, while Class B licenses have a limitation of scope, allowing the holder to work on cooling systems of under 25 tons, and heating systems of 1.5 million BTUs/hour and under. Moreover, these divisions have subclassifications called Endorsements, which on top of the size of the units a licensee is allowed to work on, specify the type of equipment and purpose of the units they are allowed to work on. Environmental Air Conditioning refers to control of temperature, humidity, cleanliness, ventilation, and circulation to meet human comfort requirements. Commercial Refrigeration refers to mechanical or absorption equipment designed to control temperature or humidity to satisfy the intended use of a specific space. Applicants are advised to select the corresponding Class and Endorsement which is specific for the field of work they want to be licensed in.
