Oregon Home Inspector Services (HISC) Contractor License

The Home Inspector Services (HISC) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:

• Operate a business offering home inspection services, meaning:
  • a person who, for a fee, is in charge of both inspecting, and/or providing written reports on the overall physical condition of a residential structure

How to Get the Home Inspector Services (HISC) Contractor’s License in Oregon?

1. Be at least 18 years of age
2. Complete a minimum of 16 hours of pre-license training with one of Oregon’s approved providers
3. Take and pass the trade examination with PSI©:
   1. Sign in or register on PSI©’s examination website
   2. Pay and schedule the examination
   3. Refer to PSI©’s Home Inspector Services (HISC) Exam Candidate Information Bulletin for more information on the test
4. Register the business applying for the license. For more information on how to set up a business, refer to Oregon Start a Business Guide
5. Fill out and submit a residential surety bond form, meeting CCB’s requirements. The amount of the bond is determined as follows:
   • Home Inspector Services Contractor: $10,000
6. Give proof of liability insurance. The amount of liability insurance needed is determined as follows:
   • Home Inspector Services Contractor: $100,000 per occurrence
7. Get worker’s compensation insurance if planning to hire employees
8. Obtain other employer account numbers and state and federal tax numbers from the Oregon’s Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service
9. Fill out the form that corresponds to your application type:
   • Limited Liability Company (LLC), Corporation, or TRUST
   • Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) or Limited Partnership (LP)
   • Partnership or Joint Venture
   • Sole Proprietorship
10. Submit the application, including the original surety bond, the insurance certificate, and the fee for a two-year license to:
