Connecticut Unlimited Well Driller (W-2) License

The Unlimited Well Driller (W-2) License allows you to do the following work:

Construction of wells
Maintenance, repair, and installation of:
- Tanks
- Pumps
- Valves
- Wiring
- Pump piping
- Pump motors
- Electric controls

The registrant can ONLY perform this work while employed by a registered contractor.

How to Get the Unlimited Well Driller (W-2) License in Connecticut?

Visit the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) website to read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation requirements for obtaining an Unlimited Well Driller (W-2) License. Follow the process held in the DCP Well Drilling Informational Page
Meet the necessary education requirements requested by the DCP
- Required courses for high school graduation or GED test
- Apprenticeship certified by the CT DOL Apprentice Training Division
- 6,000 hrs. of OJT and 288 hrs. of related instruction
Apply online, by visiting the State of Connecticut's eLicense website or send by mail the Occupational Trade Well Driller Application to the DCP official email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the following documents:
- Copy of current CT Registered Apprenticeship Card
- Criminal Conviction Worksheet, when requested
- Original copy of the Letter of Apprenticeship Completion issued by the DOL
- Receipt for payment of the non-refundable application fee by check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut"
- For military service experience and training related to this application, contact the CT Department of Labor at (860) 263-6128 to request a recommendation
- When applying for equivalent experience and training, include all documentation that demonstrates experience and training for the license type designated
Schedule the Unlimited Well Driller (W-2) administered by PSI© in the desired location and time and pay the examination fee after receiving the DCP examination approval (the exam must be taken within one year from the date of approval):
- Take and pass the Unlimited Well Driller (W-2) exam
- If the exam is passed, submit the license fee along with the exam passing score results to obtain the official license
Await the official Unlimited Well Driller (W-2) License issued by the Department of Consumer Protection
