Connecticut Unlimited Journeyperson Plumber (P-2) License

The Unlimited Journeyperson Plumber (P-2) License allows you, ONLY while employed by a contractor licensed, to perform the maintenance, repair, alteration, replacement, or installation of:

Process piping
- Piping or tubing conveying liquid or gas used directly in:
  - The production of a chemical or a product for human consumption
Low voltage wiring
- Not exceeding twenty-four volts used:
  - Within a lawn sprinkler system
Gas and water systems
Fire prevention apparatus
Mains and branch lines up to:
- The closest valve to machinery
- Equipment used in:
  - Manufacturing processes
Water systems for human usage
Lateral storm and sanitary lines
- From buildings to mains
Associated fixtures, tubing, and piping
Swimming pools and pumping equipment
Laboratory equipment and sanitary equipment
- Excluding subsurface sewage disposal systems
Making connections to backflow prevention devices
Sewage treatment facilities and associated fittings within a building

This license DOES NOT allow you to work on millwright, solar thermal (except for repair of specific sections of a solar hot water heating system), fire prevention apparatus within a structure, and medical gas and vacuum systems.

How to Get the Unlimited Journeyperson Plumber (P-2) Contractor’s License in Connecticut?

Review the requirements in the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) website to read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation necessary for obtaining an Unlimited Journeyperson Plumber (P-2) Contractor License. Follow the process held in the Plumbing and Pipefitting Work and in the Plumbing License Application Path - Journeyperson
Receive the necessary instruction requirements demanded by the DCP
- Required courses for high school graduation or GED test
- Apprenticeship certified by the CT DOL Apprentice Training Division
- Complete and submit the Office of Apprenticeship Training Completion Form before submitting an application for licensure
Apply online, by visiting the State of Connecticut's eLicense website or submit by mail the Occupational Trade Journeyperson License Application to the DCP official email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the following documents:
- Criminal Conviction Worksheet, when requested
- Original copy of the Letter of Apprenticeship Completion issued by the CT DOL Apprenticeship Training Division
- Voucher for payment of the non-refundable application fee by check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut"
- Notarized letters from the employer describing duties and specific dates of the work done, if the applicant has never been registered in an apprenticeship program
- For military service experience and training related to this application, contact the CT Department of Labor at (860) 263-6128 to request a recommendation
- When applying for equivalent experience and training, include all documentation that demonstrates experience and training for Unlimited Journeyperson Plumber (P-2)
  - Letters from a current or previous employer(s) with the following criteria:
    - Letters must be on company letterhead, dated, and notarized
    - Must include dates of employment and a specific, detailed description of your on-the job-training and work experience
    - Letters that do not meet the criteria listed above will not be accepted
    - W-2’s, 1099’s, or tax returns for proof of your on the job training or work experience won’t be accepted
  - Proof of related instruction that meet or exceed those indicated in the Unlimited Journeyperson Plumber (P-2) equivalency chart
    - Copies of transcripts
    - Diplomas
    - Certificates for proof of completion
    - On the job training and work experiences CAN NOT be considered in lieu of the required classroom training
  - Proof of successfully completed registered Apprenticeship Program from the DOL, including on the job training (OJT) and related instruction
  - Certificate of apprenticeship completion in another state or jurisdiction
Schedule the Unlimited Journeyperson Plumber (P-2) administered by PSI© in the desired location and time and pay the examination fee after receiving the DCP examination approval (the exam must be taken within one year from the date of approval):
- Take and pass the Unlimited Journeyperson Plumber (P-2) exam
- If the exam is passed, submit the license fee along with the exam passing score results to obtain the official contractor license
Expect the official Unlimited Journeyperson Plumber (P-2) Contractor License issued by the Department of Consumer Protection
