Connecticut Unlimited Journeyperson (Fire Sprinkler) (F-2) License

The Unlimited Journeyperson (Fire Sprinkler) (F-2) License allows you to do the following work related to fire protection sprinkler systems, but ONLY while working for a licensed contractor:

Reparation , alteration, maintenance, or installation of:
- Sprinkler systems
On-site fabrication of sprinkler systems
Layout of automatic or manual sprinkler systems for fire protection of:
- Buildings or structures
Work related to:
- Fire hydrants and hydrant mains
- Overhead and underground water mains
- Piping or tubing and associated equipment for sprinkler systems
- Standpipes and hose connections to sprinkler systems
- Sprinkler tank heaters (excluding electrical wiring)
- Air lines and thermal systems connected to sprinkler and alarm systems
- Foam extinguishing systems or special hazard systems
- Water spray, foam, carbon dioxide, or dry chemical systems
- Halon and other liquid or gas fire suppression systems

This license DOES NOT permit you to engage in work related to engineering design work for fire protection sprinkler systems and work performed by employees of or contractors hired by a public water system

How to Get the Unlimited Journeyperson (Fire Sprinkler) (F-2) License in Connecticut?

Visit the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) website to read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation requirements for obtaining an Unlimited Journeyperson (Fire Sprinkler) (F-2) License. Follow the process held in the Fire Protection Licenses and in the Fire Protection License Application Path - Journeyperson
Meet the necessary education requirements requested by the DCP
- Required courses for high school graduation or GED test
- Apprenticeship certified by the CT DOL Apprentice Training Division
- Complete and submit the Office of Apprenticeship Training Completion Form before submitting an application for licensure
Apply online, by visiting the State of Connecticut's eLicense website or send by mail the Occupational Trade Journeyperson License Application to the DCP official email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the following documents:
- Copy of current CT Registered Apprenticeship Card
- Criminal Conviction Worksheet, when requested
- Original copy of the Letter of Apprenticeship Completion issued by the DOL
- Receipt for payment of the non-refundable application fee by check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut"
- For military service experience and training related to this application, contact the CT Department of Labor at (860) 263-6128 to request a recommendation
- When applying for equivalent experience and training, including all documentation that demonstrates experience and training for this license type:
  - For Limited Journeyperson (F-2) license equivalency, applicants holding out-of-state license(s) shall provide:
    - Proof of related instruction that meet or exceed those of the Unlimited Journeyperson (Fire Sprinkler) (F-2) contractor equivalency chart
      
      Copies of transcripts
      
      Diplomas
      
      Certificates for proof of completion
      
      On the job training and work experiences CAN NOT be considered in lieu of the required classroom training
    - Certificate of apprenticeship completion in another state or jurisdiction, if applicable. Provide the following documentation:
      
      Copies of all occupational trade licenses held in any state or jurisdiction
      
      Documentation including laws and regulations from that state or jurisdiction that reflect the requirements met to obtain these licenses
      
      Scope of work for these licenses

    - Letters from a current or previous employer(s) with the following criteria:
      
      On company letterhead, dated, and notarized
      
      Including dates of employment and a specific, detailed description of:
      
      On-the job-training
      
      Work experience, including all aspects of the scope of work applying for
      
      Do not submit W-2’s, 1099’s or tax returns for proof of your on-the-job training or work experience
Schedule the Unlimited Journeyperson (Fire Sprinkler) (F-2) administered by PSI© in the desired location and time and pay the examination fee after receiving the DCP examination approval (the exam must be taken within one year from the date of approval):
- Take and pass the Unlimited Journeyperson (Fire Sprinkler) (F-2) exam
- If the exam is passed, submit the license fee along with the exam passing score results to obtain the official license
Await the official Unlimited Journeyperson (Fire Sprinkler) (F-2) License issued by the Department of Consumer Protection
