The Limited Non-Water-Supply Driller (W-4) License allows you to construct a non-water-supply well, including:

• Repair, maintenance, and installation of:
  • Tanks
  • Wiring
  • Valves
  • Pumps
  • Pump piping
  • Pump motors
  • Electric controls

Work can ONLY be done while employed by a licensed contractor authorized for this work.

How to Get the Limited Non-Water-Supply Driller (W-4) License in Connecticut?

1. Visit the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) website to read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation requirements for obtaining a Limited Non-Water-Supply Driller (W-4) License. Follow the process held in the DCP Well Drilling Informational Page
2. Meet the necessary education requirements requested by the DCP
   • Required courses for high school graduation or GED test
   • Complete a DCP Trainee Program with the criteria held in the Well Driller Type Apprentice/Trainee Informational Document
   • 2,000 hrs. of OJT
3. Apply online, by visiting the State of Connecticut's eLicense website or send by mail the Occupational Trade Well Driller Application to the DCP official email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the following documents:
   • Criminal Conviction Worksheet, when requested
   • Original certificate of completion of the trainee program issued by the DCP
   • Receipt for payment of the non-refundable application fee by check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut"
   • For military service experience and training related to this application, contact the CT Department of Labor at (860) 263-6128 to request a recommendation
   • When applying for equivalent experience and training, include all documentation that demonstrates experience and training for the license type designated
4. Schedule the Limited Non-Water-Supply Driller (W-4) administered by PSI© in the desired location and time and pay the examination fee after receiving the DCP examination approval (the exam must be taken within one year from the date of approval):
   • Take and pass the Limited Non-Water-Supply Driller (W-4) exam
   • If the exam is passed, submit the license fee along with the exam passing score results to obtain the official license
5. Await the official Limited Non-Water-Supply Driller (W-4) License issued by the Department of Consumer Protection
