How to Get the Limited Lawn Sprinkler (J-3) Contractor’s License in Connecticut?

1. Review the requirements in the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) website to read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation necessary for obtaining a Limited Lawn Sprinkler (J-3) Contractor License. Follow the process held in the Irrigation Trades Licensing and in the Plumbing License Application Path - Contractor
2. Receive the necessary instruction requirements demanded by the DCP
   • Required courses for high school graduation or GED test
   • Have held a CT Journeyperson's license for a total of two (2) years prior to applying
3.    • Criminal Conviction Worksheet, when requested
   • Copy of respective Connecticut Journeyperson license and the date first issued
   • Voucher for payment of the non-refundable application fee by check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut"
   • For military service experience and training related to this application, contact the CT Department of Labor at (860) 263-6128 to request a recommendation
   • When applying for equivalent experience and training, include all documentation that demonstrates experience and training for Limited Lawn Sprinkler (J-3)
     • Copy of each out-of-state electrical license, currently active
     • Notarized/certified letter from each state indicating good standing with the issuing board and the date that the license was initially issued
     • Proof of at least one of those states' requirements that meet or exceed those indicated in the Limited Lawn Sprinkler (J-3) Contractor equivalency chart
     • Proof of successfully completed registered Apprenticeship Program from the DOL, including on the job training (OJT) and related instruction
4. Schedule the Limited Lawn Sprinkler (J-3) administered by PSI© in the desired location and time and pay the examination fee after receiving the DCP examination approval (the exam must be taken within one year from the date of approval):
   • Take and pass the Limited Lawn Sprinkler (J-3) and the Business and Law exams
   • If both exams are passed, submit the license fee along with the exam passing score results to obtain the official contractor license
5. Expect the official Limited Lawn Sprinkler (J-3) Contractor License issued by the Department of Consumer Protection
