The Limited Gasoline Tank, Piping, and Pump Journeyperson (P-8) License allows you to do the following work with piping for petroleum tanks and related pumping equipment, but ONLY while employed by a licensed contractor:

  • Maintenance
  • Alteration
  • Repair

How to Get the Limited Gasoline Tank, Piping, and Pump Journeyperson (P-8) License in Connecticut?

  1. Review the requirements and visit the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) website and read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation requirements for obtaining a Limited Gasoline Tank, Piping, and Pump Journeyperson (P-8) License
  2. Apply online, by visiting the State of Connecticut's eLicense website or complete the Occupational Trade Journeyperson License Application
  3. Gather all the necessary documents as specified in the Occupational Trade Journeyperson License Application
    • Complete and submit the Office of Apprenticeship Training Completion Form before submitting an application for licensure
    • Submit an original copy of the Letter of Apprenticeship Completion issued by the CT DOL Apprenticeship Training Division
    • Provide notarized letters from the employer describing duties and specific dates of the work done, if the applicant has never been registered in an apprenticeship program
    • Include all documentation that demonstrates experience and training for this license type when applying for equivalent experience and training
      • For Limited Gasoline Tank, Piping, and Pump Journeyperson (P-8) license equivalency, applicants holding out-of-state license(s) shall provide:
        • Letters from a current or previous employer(s) with the following criteria:
          • Letters must be on company letterhead, dated, and notarized
          • Must include dates of employment and a specific, detailed description of your on-the job-training and work experience
          • Letters that do not meet the criteria listed above will not be accepted
          • W-2’s, 1099’s, or tax returns for proof of your on the job training or work experience won’t be accepted
        • Proof of related instruction that meet or exceed those indicated in the Limited Gasoline Tank, Piping, and Pump Journeyperson (P-8) contractor equivalency chart
          • Copies of transcripts
          • Diplomas
          • Certificates for proof of completion
          • On the job training and work experiences CAN NOT be considered instead of the required classroom training
        • Proof of successfully completed registered Apprenticeship Program from the DOL, including on the job training (OJT) and related instruction, indicated in the Limited Gasoline Tank, Piping, and Pump Journeyperson (P-8) contractor equivalency chart
        • Certificate of apprenticeship completion in another state or jurisdiction
  4. Pay the non-refundable application fee by check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut"
