Connecticut Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) License
The Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) License allows you to do the following work of any system, and the voltage is not to exceed forty-eight volts or eight amperes limited to:
- Low voltage
- Alarm or signal work
- Telephone-interconnect
- Audio and sound systems
The license holder can perform this work ONLY while employed by a licensed contractor.
How to Get the Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) License in Connecticut?
- Visit the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) website to read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation requirements for obtaining a Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) License. Follow the process held in the DCP Electrical License and in the Electrical Journeyperson
- Meet the necessary education requirements requested by the DCP
- Required courses for high school graduation or GED test
- Apprenticeship certified by the CT DOL Apprentice Training Division
- Complete and submit the Office of Apprenticeship Training Completion Form before submitting an application for licensure
- Apply online, by visiting the State of Connecticut's eLicense website or send by mail the Occupational Trade Journeyperson License Application to the DCP official email address

- Criminal Conviction Worksheet, when requested
- Original copy of the Letter of Apprenticeship Completion issued by the DOL
- Receipt for payment of the non-refundable application fee by check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut"
- Notarized letters from the employer describing duties and specific dates of the work done, if the applicant has never been registered in an apprenticeship program
- For military service experience and training related to this application, contact the CT Department of Labor at (860) 263-6128 to request a recommendation
- When applying for equivalent experience and training, including all documentation that demonstrates experience and training for this license type:
- For Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) license equivalency, applicants holding out-of-state license(s) shall provide:
- Copy of each out-of-state elevator journeyperson license, currently active
- Notarized/certified letter from each state indicating good standing with the issuing board and the date that the license was initially issued
- If licenses in multiple states are held, provide proof of at least one of those state's requirements that meet or exceed those indicated in the Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) equivalency chart
- Proof of successfully completed registered Apprenticeship Program from the DOL, including on the job training (OJT) and related instruction
- For Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) license equivalency, applicants holding out-of-state license(s) shall provide:
- Schedule the Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) administered by PSI© in the desired location and time and pay the examination fee after receiving the DCP examination approval (the exam must be taken within one year from the date of approval):
- Take and pass the Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) exam
- If the exam is passed, submit the license fee along with the exam passing score results to obtain the official license
- Await the official Limited Electrical Journeyperson (C-6) License issued by the Department of Consumer Protection
