Connecticut Limited Conveyor (R-7) Contractor License
The Limited Conveyor (R-7) Contractor License allows you to perform only work limited to the repair, maintenance, alteration, or installation of:
- Machines, apparatus, or equipment used to:
- Convey materials permanently or temporarily placed and of a fixed nature
Work on any freight elevator can NOT be done for the holder of this license.
How to Get the Limited Conveyor (R-7) Contractor’s License in Connecticut?
- Visit the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) website to read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation requirements for obtaining a Limited Conveyor (R-7) Contractor License. Follow the process held in the Crane and Conveyor and in the Conveyor License Application Path
- Meet the necessary education requirements requested by the DCP
- Required courses for high school graduation or GED test
- Have held a CT Journeyperson's license for a total of two (2) years prior to applying
- Apply online, by visiting the State of Connecticut's eLicense website or send the Occupational Trade Contractor License Application to the DCP official email address

- Copy of current CT DCP Trainee Program Registration
- Original certificate of completion of the trainee program as issued by the CT DCP
- Copy of respective Connecticut Journeyperson license for a minimum of two (2) years before the application
- Receipt for payment of the non-refundable application fee by check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut"
- For military service experience and training related to this application, contact the CT Department of Labor at (860) 263-6128 to request a recommendation
- When applying for equivalent experience and training, including all documentation that demonstrates experience and training for this license type:
- For Limited Conveyor (R-7) license equivalency, applicants holding out-of-state license(s) shall provide:
- Copy of each out-of-state hoist, cranes, and lifts contractor’s license, currently active
- Notarized/certified letter from each state indicating that you are in good standing with the issuing board and the date that the license was initially issued
- Proof of business entity as a hoist, cranes, and lifts contractor in at least one of the states where there is a contractor’s license, currently active
- Copy of your certificate of registration with State and Federal agencies, inclusive of FEIN number
- Apprenticeship program certificate of completion in another State from Departments of Labor or other certifying government agency
Notarized letters from current or former employers(s)
- Letters must be on company letterhead, dated, and notarized
- Must include dates of employment and a specific, detailed description of your on-the job-training, work experience, and scope of work
- Letters that do not meet the criteria listed above will not be accepted
- W-2’s, 1099’s, or tax returns for proof of your on the job training or work experience won’t be accepted
Proof of related instruction that meet or exceed those indicated in the Limited Conveyor (R-7) Contractor equivalency chart
- Copies of transcripts
- Diplomas
- Certificates for proof of completion
- On the job training and work experiences CAN NOT be considered instead of the required classroom training
- For Limited Conveyor (R-7) license equivalency, applicants holding out-of-state license(s) shall provide:
- Schedule the Limited Conveyor (R-7) administered by PSI© in the desired location and time and pay the examination fee after receiving the DCP examination approval (the exam must be taken within one year from the date of approval):
- Take and pass the Limited Conveyor (R-7) and the Business and Law exams
- If both exams are passed, submit the license fee along with the exam passing score results to obtain the official contractor license
- Await the official Limited Conveyor (R-7) Contractor License issued by the Department of Consumer Protection
