Texas Elevator Contractor License

The Elevator Contractor License gives you official authorization to complete the following tasks with elevator escalators, and related equipment:

  • Installation
  • Alteration
  • Testing
  • Repair

How to Get the Elevator Contractor’s License in Texas?

A business dedicated to the inspection, planning, and review of elevator/escalator plans should be registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation

  1. Fill out and submit an Elevator Contractor Registration Form alongside with the corresponding fee
  2. Attach a proof of insurance in accordance with the quantities specified on the Application Form must be acquired from an authorized insurance provider. The certificate of insurance must contain a provision or an endorsement that gives the TDLR 30 days prior written notice of cancellation
  3. Designate at least one but no more than two Responsible Parties
    • These individuals will be the ones in charge of meeting the experience requirements mentioned on the 82 (R) HB 2643 Act, being “a minimum of three years of elevator contractor experience related to elevator installation, repair, and maintenance”. They will also be the ones to attend the Continuing Education courses that are mandatory to sustain the registration with the department
    • The designation of these individuals must be completed by filling out and sending it the Elevator Contractor - Responsible Party Designee Form
    • If this employee were to leave the company after the registration is done, the organization should send in a written notice to the department as soon as possible. Consequently, the organization should add a new person to this position within the next thirty days by repeating the regular process mentioned above
  4. Receive a license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), which will be valid for one year from the date the process has been validated and completed
