Oregon Building Official (BO) License

The Building Official (BO) License allows you to do the following work:

  • Supervising the State Building Code's administration and enforcement in a determined area

How to Get the Building Official (BO) License in Oregon?

  1. Register with the Building Codes Division via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  2. Meet the prerequisites for the training program:
    • Be employed by a municipality conducting building official or assistant building official duties, or
    • Be in negotiations for employment as a building official
  3. Pay, take and pass the online Building Official Certification (BO) course within six months of the hire or appointment date by a jurisdiction
  4. Schedule and take the State exam to be designated as a Building Official after successfully completing the course. For more information on the test, contact the Inspector Training Program
