The General Contractor license allows work to be done in most trades of a construction project. The trades not covered by the license can be subbed-out legally and for-profit to a licensed sub-contractor. A General Contractor can build, repair, and remodel any type of building. A General Contractor license does NOT cover Roofing, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, and a couple of other trades but allows the work's subcontracting. There are different requirements to meet to get the license. To become a General Contractor in Tampa, applicants must sit for two exams: business and finance and the trade.
