The Hoisting Equipment Operator Contractor License allows you to operate hoisting equipment, that is:

  • Motorized
  • Used in:
    • Excavation
    • Demolition
    • Construction
  • At a construction site of a project that
    • Estimated cost of which is more than $1,250,000
    • Manufacturer's rated maximum reach in excess of 32 feet
    • Is other than residential structures of less than four stories
    • With the manufacturer's rated lifting capacity exceeding 5 tons

How to Get the Hoisting Equipment Operator License in Connecticut?

  1. Visit the CT Department of Administrative Services (DAS) website to read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation requirements for obtaining a Hoisting Equipment Operator Contractor License. Follow the process held in the Apply for a CT Hoisting Equipment Operator License
  2. Register to create an account with Connecticut's eLicense Site and fill out the Hoisting Equipment Operator license application
  3. Pay the corresponding fee of the application to the DAS
  4. Meet the requirements of the Department of Administrative Services:
    • Provide a notarized statement from your employer indicating the dates and duties of employment operating such equipment or proof of ownership and control of a company utilizing such equipment
    • Return all documents, including the appropriate fees to the Office of the State Fire Marshal
  5. Await the response from the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) for confirmation if the license will be issued. The applicant will receive the Hoisting Equipment Operator license via mail
