Connecticut Asbestos Contractor License

An Asbestos Contractor License allows a person to do the following work:

  • Engage in asbestos abatement

Asbestos-licensed Contractor employees can perform asbestos abatement work.

How to Get the Asbestos Contractor's License in Connecticut?

  1. Apply online in the State of Connecticut's eLicense website or fill out typewritten, completed, and notarized Asbestos Contractor License Application and pay the required fee as a certified bank check or money order made payable to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut". Submit the completed application form, together with the application fee, to the DPH Environmental Licensing Office
  2. Meet the necessary education requirements requested by the DPH
    • A sole proprietor conducting abatement is required to be credentialed as an Asbestos Supervisor and Asbestos Contractor
    • A sole or part owner in other asbestos contracting companies or credentialed in other states will be required to provide full records for 3 completed abatement projects
  3. Provide all the documents when requested. It may include the following:
    • Notarized Proof of settlement of fine
    • Notarized Statement of Professional History and all related records
    • Statement from the officer with the conditions of release, if currently on parole or probation
    • Notarized Certified Court Copy (with court seal affixed) of the original complaint, answer, judgment, settlement, and/or disposition of the case, if ever been found guilty or convicted as a result of an act that constitutes a felony under the laws of the state
    • Copy of the insurance certificate, which can be one of the following:
      • Workers' Compensation Insurance Certificate
      • Workers' Compensation Exclusion Form
        • If additional workers are employed, Workers' Compensation Insurance will be required at the start of each project
        • If a sole proprietor or Limited Liability Corporation partnership (LLC) with no employees, check the Workers' Compensation Department website to obtain the appropriate exclusion form
  4. Await for the professional staff of the DPH to review the application and make an eligibility determination. The review will be conducted within 10 business days, and the applicant will be notified in writing with regard to the determination
  5. Upon approval of an application, the licensee will receive written verification of the license number and the effective date. Three part licensing documents will be forwarded to the licensee's address
