The Asbestos Consultant - Inspector is a licensed consultant, certified as an Inspector

  • This license allows to:
    • Identify
    • Assess the condition
    • Collect bulk samples
  • of suspected asbestos-containing material

How to Get the Asbestos Consultant - Inspector License in Connecticut?

  1. Visit the CT Department of Public Health (DPH) website, and read the eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and documentation requirements for obtaining an Asbestos Consultant - Inspector License and follow the process held in the Environmental Practitioner Licensure
  2. Meet the necessary education requirements requested by the DPH, it may be one of the following:
    • A minimum of 6 months experience in an occupation closely related to that of an inspector
    • 2 months of field experience under the supervision of a licensed inspector or licensed management planner
    • Two (2) years of employment experience as an asbestos consultant
    • Bachelor's or associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution in engineering, architecture, industrial hygiene, or an environmental science degree as determined by the commissioner to be closely related
  3. Mail the completed Notarized Asbestos Inspector or Project Monitor License Application (MUST be typewritten), to the DPH Environmental Licensing Office with the following documents:
    • Verification of Experience Form
    • Check and/or money order to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut" of the non-refundable application fee
    • Affix a recent, glossy color, passport-type photograph
    • Provide all the documents when requested. It may include the following:
      • Official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education verifying a bachelor's or associate's degree or two (2) years of employment experience as an asbestos consultant between July 1, 1985, and November 1, 1994
      • Current 8 hour asbestos refresher training certificate from a Connecticut or US EPA approved training provider
      • Other states' asbestos abatement license(s) you hold
      • Notarized Statement of Professional History and all related records
      • Notarized Proof of settlement of fine
      • If ever been found guilty or convicted as a result of an act that constitutes a felony under the laws of the state, provide a Notarized Certified Court Copy (with court seal affixed) of the original complaint, answer, judgment, settlement, and/or disposition of the case
      • If currently on parole or probation, provide a statement from the officer with the conditions of release
  4. Await for the professional staff of the DPH to review the application and make an eligibility determination. The applicant will be notified in writing with regard to the determination
  5. Upon approval of an application, the licensee will receive written verification of the license number and the effective date. Three part licensing documents will be forwarded to the licensee's address
