State Licenses

Select a license to view its requirements, definition, exams, books, and classes.

The State of Georgia has Electrical Endorsements Agreements with California, Colorado, NASCLA®, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas.

Conditioned Air Contractor Class I

Limited to the installation, repair, or service of conditioned air systems.

Conditioned Air Contractor Class II

Installation, repair and service of any type of air conditioning system anywhere in Georgia.

Electrical Contractor Class I (Restricted)

Restricted to electrical contracting involving multifamily structures of not more than two levels or single-family dwellings of up to three levels.

Electrical Contractor Class II (Un-Restricted)

Unrestricted and can perform any type of electrical work anywhere in Georgia.

Journeyman Plumbing

Installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of plumbing fixtures and systems under the direction of a Master Plumber.

Low Voltage: Alarm

Restricted to alarm and general system low-voltage contracting. burglary, fire, robbery, medical emergency, or equipment failure, or on the occurrence of any other predetermined event.

Low Voltage: General

General low-voltage systems mean any electrical systems, other than alarm or telecommunication systems, involving low-voltage wiring

Low Voltage: Telecommunications

Contract for work restricted to low-voltage telecommunication and general systems

Low Voltage: Unrestricted

Work on any type of low-voltage system such as intercom, call alert, alarm, telecommunication, sound, antenna, etc

Master Plumbing

Limited to plumbing involving single family dwellings, one-level dwellings designed for no more than 2 families, and commercial structures not exceeding 10,000 square feet

NASCLA® Commercial General Building

The NASCLA Accredited Examination Program was designed to assist contractors who wish to be licensed in multiple jurisdictions by offering a streamlined test taking option for the trade portion of the contractor examination.

Residential- Basic

A person who performs contractor work or activity relative to detached one-family and two-family residences and one-family townhouses not over three stories in height and their accessory buildings and structures

Residential- Light

Performs any contractor work or activity performed by a residential-basic contractor and, additionally, shall include such contractor work or activity related to multifamily and multi-use light commercial buildings and structures

Utility Contractor

The utility contractor's license allows you to construct, erect, alter, or repair or have constructed, erected, altered, or repaired any utility system.

How to Apply for your Exam

  1. Submit a completed application and non-refundable fee with documentation of the required experience and other qualifications and reference information
  2. Submit a completed examination scheduling form with fee, and
  3. Pass the examination

Reciprocity

Experience

  • Minimum of 21 years old
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in the electrical field
    • Primary Experience: Work experience gained through the direct installation of electrical systems of a type covered by the National Electrical Code and directly related activity
    • Secondary Experience will be credited at a rate of fifty percent (50%): Work or training experience related to electrical contracting work involving electrical systems covered by the National Electrical Code.
  • Three (3) years of Primary Experience and two (2) years of Secondary Experience would meet the 4 years experience requirements.
  • Education may be applied toward the experience requirements as follows:
    • Completion of a two (2) academic year minimum diploma
    • Completion of a two (2) academic year minimum certificate program of a vocational-technical school may be credited as no more than one (1) year of experience

  2. Submit a completed examination scheduling form with fee, and
  3. Pass the examination

For licensure in Georgia as a General Contractor or General Contractor Limited Tier (Individual or Qualifying Agent), all candidates must pass the NASCLA - Accredited Examination for Commercial General Building Contractors and Business & Law Exam.
