Washington Nonresidential Maintenance (EL07) Contractor License

The Nonresidential Maintenance (EL07) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:

  • Maintenance, repair and replacement of:
    • Like-in-kind existing electrical equipment and conductors
  • Installation and connections of:
    • Temporary conductors and equipment for the purpose of load testing, not to exceed 600 volts
  • Replacement of a device(s) that provides overcurrent or overload protection for the new equipment with a device(s) having a lower ampere rating in accordance with the nameplate rating of the new equipment:
    • Where the new equipment has a lower ampere rating than the equipment being replaced and there are no modifications to the ampacity rating of the existing conductors
  • Excluded from:
    • Maintenance activities in residential dwellings for the purposes of accumulating training experience toward qualification for the residential (02) specialty electrician examination

How to Get the Nonresidential Maintenance (EL07) Contractor’s License in Washington?

  1. Be an electrical trainee or have equivalent out-of-state or military experience
  2. Meet the experience and training requirements (You can use the Washington Department of Labor & Industries' tool to verify the hours of experience):
    • Nonresidential Maintenance (EL07):
      • 4,000 hours of work experience related to the selected specialty as an electrical trainee
      • 48 hours of basic classroom instruction
      • Be supervised 75% of the time
  3. Fill out the corresponding application form for the electrical examination:
  4. Mail the application and the documents needed to certify the experience required for each license to:
