Washington Master Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C) License

The Master Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C) License allows you to do the following work:

  • Supervise electrical work and electricians on the following:
    • Maintenance, repair, or replacement of:
      • Like-in-kind existing electrical utilization equipment
      • All permit exempted work except for the replacement or repair of circuit breakers
    • Work limited to:
      • Equipment and circuits to a maximum of 277 volts and 20 amperes for lighting branch circuits only
      • Maximum 250 volts and 60 amperes for other circuits
    • Replacement of luminaires limited to:
      • In-place replacement required by failure of the luminaire to operate
    • Relocation of Luminaires installed in suspended lay-in tile ceilings providing:
      • The original field installed luminaire supply whip is not extended or relocated to a new supply point
      • A manufactured wiring assembly supplies luminaire power, a luminaire may be relocated no more than eight feet providing the manufactured wiring assembly circuiting is not changed
    • Disconnection and reconnection of:
      • Low-voltage control and line voltage supply whips not over six feet in length provided:
        • There are no modifications to the characteristics of the branch circuit
    • "Electrical equipment" does not include:
      • Electrical conductors
      • Raceway or conduit systems external to the equipment or whip

The Washington Master Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C) licensee CANNOT perform any plumbing work.

How to Get the Master Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C) License in Washington?

  1. Meet the requirements necessary for the certification level:
    • Have an electrician certificate issued by the department for at least two years
  2. Obtain the following information before doing the application process with PSI©:
    • Social Security Number
    • Mailing address
    • Email address
    • Corresponding fees
  3. Fill out and submit the Application for the Master Restricted Nonresidential Maintenance (7C) Examination along with all the previous documents, to:

    The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries allows candidates to apply in person. Please refer to the list of local offices before visiting
  4. Expect a notice by mail from the Labor & Industries department and instructions on exam scheduling once the application is reviewed
  5. Take and pass the examination. For more information on the subjects and study material needed to prepare for the exam, refer to the Candidate Information Bulletin
  6. Complete a Change Assignment of Master Certificate form to be assigned to an electrical contractor and submit it with the corresponding fee
