Washington Limited Energy System (EL06) Contractor License
The Limited Energy System (EL06) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:
- 30 volts and less low-voltage systems
- All telecommunications work
Perform work limited to:
- The installation of signaling and power limited circuits and related equipment
- Low-voltage circuits
- Telecommunications
- HVAC/refrigeration low-voltage wiring
- Fire protection signaling systems
- Intrusion alarms
- Energy management and control systems
- Industrial and automation control systems
- Lighting control systems
- Commercial and residential amplified sound
- Public address systems
- Similar low-energy circuits and equipment in all occupancies and locations
- Work with line voltage connections:
- When a line voltage connection is removed and reconnected to a replacement component located inside the control cabinet, the replacement must be:
- Like-in-kind
- Replaced using the equipment manufacturer's authorized replacement component
- The line voltage circuit is limited to 120 volts 20 amps maximum and must have a means of disconnect
- Repair or replace line voltage connections terminated inside the cabinet to:
- Power supplies internal to the low voltage equipment provided there are no modifications to the characteristics of the branch circuit/feeder load being supplied by the circuit
- When a line voltage connection is removed and reconnected to a replacement component located inside the control cabinet, the replacement must be:
The Limited Energy System (EL06) Contractor License DOES NOT allow you to do the following work:
- Replace or modify the line voltage circuit or cabling
- Alter the means of connection of the line voltage circuit to the power supply or to the control cabinet
How to Get the Limited Energy System (EL06) Contractor’s License in Washington?
- Be an electrical trainee or have equivalent out-of-state or military experience
- Meet the experience and training requirements (You can use the Washington Department of Labor & Industries' tool to verify the hours of experience):
- Limited Energy System (EL06):
- 4,000 hours of work experience related to the selected specialty as an electrical trainee
- 48 hours of basic classroom instruction
- Be supervised 75% of the time
- Limited Energy System (EL06):
- Fill out the corresponding application form for the electrical examination:
- In-State Application for Electrical Examination for Journey Level or 4,000-hour electricians
- Electrical Specialty Application Form for 2,000-hour electricians
- Out-of-State Application for Electrical Examination
- Mail the application and the documents needed to certify the experience required for each license to:
