The Door, Gate, and Similar Systems (10) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:
- Install, service, maintain, repair, or replace door/gate/similar systems electrical operator systems, such as:
- Electric gates
- Doors
- Windows
- Awnings
- Movable partitions
- Curtains
Internal systems:
- Control push buttons
- Key switches
- Keypads
- Pull cords
- Air and electric treadle
- Air and electric sensing edges
- Coil cords
- Take-up reels
- Clocks
- Photoelectric cells
- Loop detectors
- Motion detectors
- Remote radio and receivers
- Antenna
- Timers
- Lock-out switches
- Stand-alone release device with smoke detection
- Strobe light
- Annunciator
- Control panels
- Wiring
- Termination of conductors
- Branch circuits of 600 volts, 20 amperes
- May reconnect line voltage power to a door/gate/similar systems electric operator control panel if:
- The branch circuit/feeder is not modified
- The circuit/feeder does not exceed 600 volts, 20 amperes
- The conductor or conduit extending from the branch circuit/feeder disconnecting means or junction box does not exceed 6 feet
How to Get the Door, Gate, and Similar Systems (10) Contractor’s License in Washington?
- Be an electrical trainee or have equivalent out-of-state or military experience
- Meet the experience and training requirements (You can use the Washington Department of Labor & Industries' tool to verify the hours of experience):
- Door, Gate, and Similar Systems (10):
- 2,000 hours of work experience related to the selected specialty as an electrical trainee
- 24 hours of basic classroom instruction
- Be supervised 75% of the time
- Door, Gate, and Similar Systems (10):
- Fill out the corresponding application form for the electrical examination:
- In-State Application for Electrical Examination for Journey Level or 4,000-hour electricians
- Electrical Specialty Application Form for 2,000-hour electricians
- Out-of-State Application for Electrical Examination
- Mail the application and the documents needed to certify the experience required for each license to:
