• Natural Gas piping
• Fittings

How to Get the Journeyman Natural Gasfitter License in Virginia?

To apply, the candidate must fulfill the following qualifications:

1. Be at least 18 years old
2. Complete a Tradesman Formal Vocation Training with one of the approved providers
3. Meet the following requirements:
   • Time requirements:
     • 4 years of practical experience in the trade and 240 hours of formal vocational training
     • 5 years of practical experience in the trade and 160 hours of formal vocational training
     • 6 years of practical experience in the trade and 80 hours of formal vocational training
     • 7 years of practical experience in the trade and 40 hours of formal vocational training
     • 10 years of practical experience in that trade as verified by individuals who have observed the applicant’s work in the trade
4. Associate’s degree or certificate of completion from at least a two-year program in a tradesman-related field from an accredited community college or technical school and 2 years of practical experience in the trade for which licensure is requested
5. Bachelor’s degree or certificate of completion from an accredited college or university in an engineering curriculum related to the trade and 1 year of practical experience in the trade for which licensure is requested
6. Submit a completed application, an experience verification form, and the corresponding fee to the DPOR
7. Be pre-approved and register for the PSI© exams by mail, fax or online:

8. Take and pass the trade examination
9. Expect an answer from The Department regarding the license
