The Journeyman HVAC License allows you to do the maintenance and improvement of:

• HVAC systems
• Heating
• Ventilating
• Cooling
• Steam
• Hot water heaters
• Heating systems
• Boilers
• Process piping
• Mechanical refrigeration systems
• Tanks

How to Get the Journeyman HVAC License in Virginia?

To apply, the candidate must fulfill the following qualifications:

1. Be at least 18 years old
2. Complete a Tradesman Formal Vocation Training with one of the approved providers
3. Meet the following requirements:
   • Time requirements:
     • Four years of practical experience in the trade and 240 hours of formal vocational training
     • Five years of practical experience in the trade and 160 hours of formal vocational training
     • Six years of practical experience in the trade and 80 hours of formal vocational training
     • Seven years of practical experience in the trade and 40 hours of formal vocational training
     • Ten years of practical experience in that trade as verified by individuals who have observed the applicant’s work in the trade
4. Associate’s degree or certificate of completion from at least a two-year program in a tradesman-related field from an accredited community college or technical school and 2 years of practical experience in the trade for which licensure is requested
5. Bachelor’s degree or certificate of completion from an accredited college or university in an engineering curriculum related to the trade and 1 year of practical experience in the trade for which licensure is requested
6. Send a completed application, an experience verification form, and corresponding fee to the DPOR
7. Be pre-approved and register for the PSI© exams by mail, fax or online:

   • By fax: send the registration form to this number: (702) 932-2666, along with a credit card number and its expiration date
8. Take and pass the trade examination
9. Await The Department’s response in regards to the license
