Virginia Journeyman Alternative Onsite Sewage System Installer License

The Journeyman Alternative Onsite Sewage System Installer License allows you to do the following:

  • Work under the direct supervision of a master licensee:
    • Alternative onsite sewage systems:
      • Construct
      • Install
      • Repair
    • Design onsite sewage systems

How to Get the Journeyman Alternative Onsite Sewage System Installer License in Virginia?

To apply, the candidates must fulfill one of the following qualifications:

  • Qualification 1:
    • Prerequisites: Be an employee, owner, director, or officer of a properly licensed contractor with a sewage disposal system (SDS) specialty issued by the Virginia Board for Contractors
    • Document Qualifying Experience: One year of full-time experience assisting with the installation of alternative onsite sewage systems verified by one or more of the following: an Alternative Onsite Soil Evaluator, an Alternative Onsite Sewage System Installer, a Professional Engineer, or an Authorized Onsite Soil Evaluator
    • No education or exam requirements
  • Qualification 2:
    • Document Qualifying Experience: Two years of full-time experience assisting with the installation of alternative onsite sewage systems verified by one or more of the following: an Alternative Onsite Soil Evaluator, an Alternative Onsite Sewage System Installer, a Professional Engineer, or an Authorized Onsite Soil Evaluator
    • No education or exam requirements

Once completed, follow these steps:

  1. Fill out the license application, as well as an experience verification form
  2. Submit the documents along with the corresponding fee to the DPOR
  3. Expect a response from The Department in regards to the license
