Utah Residential Plumbing (P201) Contractor License

The Residential Plumbing (P201) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:

  • Perform the fabrication or installation of material and fixtures to maintain and create sanitary conditions in residential buildings
  • Provide permanent means for a supply of safe and pure water
  • Removal from the premises of all used or:
    • Contaminated water
    • Fluid and semi-fluid organic wastes
    • Other impurities incidental to life
  • Safe and adequate supply of gases for:
    • Lighting
    • Heating
    • Residential purposes

How to Get the Residential Plumbing (P201) Contractor License in Utah?

  1. Fill out the contractor application form
  2. Take and pass a 30-hour-pre licensure course
  3. Obtain a general liability insurance certificate with a minimum coverage of 100,000 for each incident and $300,000 in total where the DOPL is listed as a certificate holder
  4. Enroll your business entity with the Utah Division of Corporations
  5. Gather your EIN number (Employer Identification number from the IRS)
  6. Collect the following if the applicant has employees
  7. If the applicant does not have employees, they will only need the following:
  8. Meet one of the following experience requirements:
    • Must have held a Utah contractor license or be a qualifier for at least two years
    • Two years of experience in the construction industry with a minimum of 4,000 hours of paid work experience
    • Two or four-year degree in Construction Management
    • Be a licensed Utah Professional Engineer
    • Must have held a license in another jurisdiction for one year in the same scope of work being applied for in Utah
  9. Meet one of the following exam requirements:
  10. Expect the department’s response in a four to six-week period
