Utah General Engineering (E100) Contractor License
The General Engineering (E100) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:
- Perform or supervise construction of fixed works requiring engineering knowledge in any of the following:
- Irrigation
- Drainage
- Water power and supply
- Flood control
- Inland waterways
- Harbors
- Railroads
- Highways
- Tunnels
- Airports
- Airport runways
- Sewers
- Bridges
- Refinery
- Pipelines
- Chemical plants
- Industrial plants
- Piers
- Foundations
- Power plants
- Utility plants or installations
The General Engineering (E100) Contractor License DOES NOT allow you to do the following work:
- Construction of structures built for the support, shelter, and enclosure of persons, animals, and chattels
- Plumbing work
- Electrical
- Mechanical
How to Get the General Engineering (E100) Contractor’s License in Utah?
- Complete the General Engineering (E100) Contractor Application Form
- Take and pass a 30-hour-pre licensure course
- Obtain a general liability insurance certificate with a minimum coverage of 100,000 for each incident and $300,000 in total that covers where the Division of Professional Licensing is listed as a certificate holder
- Enroll your business entity with the Utah Division of Corporations
- Gather your EIN number, (Employer Identification number from the IRS)
- Collect the following if the applicant has employees
- Certificate of Workers Compensation insurance with the Division of Professional License
- State withholding tax registration from the UT State Tax Commission
- Unemployment registration from the Utah Department of Workforce Services
- If the applicant does NOT have employees, they will only need the following:
- Workers Compensation Coverage Waiver from the Utah Labor Commission
- Meet one of the experience requirements:
- Two (2) years of experience in the construction industry with a minimum of 4,000 hours of paid work experience
- Must have held a Utah contractor license or be a qualifier for at least 2 years
- 2 or 4-year degree in Construction Management
- Be a licensed Utah Professional Engineer
- Must have held a license in another jurisdiction for one year in the same scope of work being applied for in Utah
- Meet one of the following exam requirements:
- Pass NASCLA© exam for Commercial General Building Contractors
- Apply for the Utah Business & Law Exam directly with ProV© and provide a copy of your test results with the application. Applicants are not to be submitted until you have successfully passed and completed the exam. Electronic submission of exam results will be sent directly to DOPL from ProV©
