Utah Plumbing Licenses

The plumbing licensing process is done through the Utah Department of Commerce - Division of Occupational Professional Licensing. For the state of Utah, there are four classifications for the Plumber License: Journeyman Plumber (JP), Master Plumber (MP), Residential Journeyman Plumber (RJP), and Residential Master Plumber (RMP). Application for licensure is NOT to be sent until the applicant has successfully passed all required exams and met the licensing requirements for the chosen license.
As of July 14, 2022, applicants seeking a master licensing classification will just be required to take and pass the Utah Plumber Theory exam and the Utah Plumber Practical exam ONLY if they did not take those exams to get a Utah journeyman classification. Also, effective as of July 14, 2022, the Residential and Commercial practical exam has now been combined into one. Candidates seeking a Plumber classification must take and successfully pass the Utah Plumber Practical exam.
You may refer to the Utah Plumbing Candidate Information Bulletin to learn more about the required exams as well as the registration and payment methods.
