Applying for your License

  1. This application must be submitted to the State of Utah Department of Commerce

To Apply for a License you must meet the following:

  1. Provide a copy of your certificate of completion from one of the following:
    • The Canadian Elevator Industry Education Program
    • The National Association of Elevator Contractors Certified Elevator Technician Education Program
    • The National Elevator Industry Education Program
    • Any other program that meets the requirements of subsection 58-55-302(3)(m)(i)(C) as determined by the Commission. (Additional documentation may be required.)

Endorsment Requirements

Endorsments are not accepted for the Elevator Mechanic License.

Scheduling your Exam

Applicants for the Utah Elevator Mechanic License, who hold a current certification from a registered apprenticeship program for elevator mechanics (NAEC, CET, NEIEP, or CEEP), are not required to take an exam before applying. Applicants without a certificate from a registered apprenticeship program may apply by experience.

  • You may test at any one of Prov’s testing centers. For a current list of Utah Testing Centers, please Contact Prov.
  • The examinations cost $68 for each exam. (first time or retake)
  • The results from your examination will be provided to you at the exam site.

Reciprocity

  • No. Utah does not have reciprocity. Instead, Utah allows for licensure by endorsement.
