Texas Journeyman Sign Electrician License

The Journeyman Sign Electrician License officially enables you to conduct related work under the general supervision of a Master Electrician or a Master Sign Electrician:

• Alteration of electric sign wiring or conductors either inside or outside of a building
• Electric signs, cold cathodes, neon gas tubing, or outline gas tubing:
  • Design
  • Manufacture
  • Installation
  • Connection
  • Reconnection
  • Service

How to Apply for a Journeyman Sign Electrician License?

1. Have completed at least eight thousand verified hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a Master Electrician or Master Sign Electrician
   • This experience must be documented by the supervisor on an Experience Verification Form that must be sent in alongside the Application Form
   • If the direct Master Electrician under whose supervision the work was conducted is not able to fill out the form, the candidate may contact the Electrical Contractor organization, or use the License Search to locate them
2. Turn in a Journeyman Sign Electrician License Application Form with the required non-refundable fee. This form must be sent to P.O Box 12157 in Austin, Texas 78711-2157
3. Schedule an exam with PSI© after the Department has received, verified and approved the postulation. More information regarding the Electrician Exam can be found on the Electrician Examination Information page
4. Applicants may schedule a retake with PSI© within 24 to 48 hours in the case the exam is failed. This process can be repeated for one year after turning in the application
5. Await for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to give a response once the application and examination results are completed and reviewed
