Texas Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician License
The Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician License allows you to do the following work:
- Collect baseline, area, and clearance samples, if employed by an asbestos consultant agency or an asbestos laboratory
- Perform air monitoring services for an asbestos abatement project or asbestos-related activity in a public building
- Record in writing the results of area, baseline, clearance, and personal air samples that are analyzed
- Document the area, baseline, and clearance air sample results and personal air sample results to the asbestos abatement contractor
- Cooperate with DSHS personnel during inspections and investigations
- Gather personal samples if employed by a Licensed Asbestos Consultant or Licensed Consultant Agency that is hired by an Asbestos Abatement Contractor or Asbestos Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Contractor
- Analyze airborne fibers in the field if employed by a licensed asbestos laboratory and if listed on the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Asbestos Analyst Registry, or has received the NIOSH 582 or NIOSH 582 Equivalent training and participates in the AIHA Proficiency Analytical Testing Program:
- Calibrate microscopes to read test slides provided by the DSHS inspector
- Prepare sampling logs and slides
- Perform calculations to determine sample time, flow rate, volume, sample count, fiber concentration, and time weighted average
How to Get the Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician License in Texas?
- Comply with the requirements set forth for Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician:
- Verification of completing the Department’s test to become an Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician Exam Registration Form & Calendar
- Registration will only be granted after receiving the examination fee, the registration form, a copy of valid training certificates, and any other documents
- Having conducted air monitoring as an Apprentice on 3 or more Asbestos Abatement Projects for about 15 days and under the supervision of an Asbestos Licensee - experience must be obtained after the Initial Training Course
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Color photo of candidate's headshot with a clear white background (2 by 2 inches)
- DSHS Physician’s Written Statement (signed within the last 12 months)
- ID and Initial Asbestos Air Monitoring Training Certificate if they apply
- If applicable, any Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician Refresher Training Certificates and Training IDs obtained before submission of application
- Verification of completing the Department’s test to become an Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician Exam Registration Form & Calendar
- Determine if the Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician Application is available online
- If available, use the Regulatory Services Online Licensing System platform
