Application Process

You must submit either a financial statement or a surety bond to determine your license group limitation. The group limitation amounts can be found on pages 5 and 6 of the Application. Select a Group limitation to determine the type of financial statement or surety bond you must submit with your Application. Once you are approved through PSI©, you will receive a Registration Confirmation Notice, which is valid for 1 year, or until an examination classification has been failed twice within the referenced time frame.

Reciprocity

Reciprocity is available for these states Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah. Not every License is available for reciprocity application in every state. If your state is listed but the classification/trade is not listed on the application form, you are not eligible to apply by waiver/ reciprocity

Testing by PSI©

To be licensed, you must pass a Business and Law Examination on the South Carolina Code of Laws to confirm that you have attained at least a minimum level of knowledge regarding the principles, practices, statutes, and regulations. Most general and mechanical contractor classifications also require passing a technical examination.

All Burglar and Fire Alarm Contractor candidates are required to pass the Alarm Code of Laws Examination and the technical alarm examination of the specific license category in which they are applying.

Effective September 1, 2002, Burglar and Fire Alarm contractors are required to pass the NTS Level I (burglar) and the NICET Level II (fire) examinations in addition to the examinations given by PSI©.
