Permits

Types of Building Permits

The City of Apopka has multiple permits for many trades; for more information, please review the following.

Building

Building Permits are required to erect, enlarge, alter, remove, demolish or repair a structure in the City of Apopka. This includes everything from fences and garages to commercial construction, signs, and additions.

  • Other Types of Building Permits Include:
    • Backflow Preventers
    • Fire sprinkler
    • Mechanical
    • Roofs
    • Shutters

Electrical

Electrical Permits are required for all electrical work, including the installation of new electrical service equipment, existing service relocations, service increases, as well as fixed appliances and equipment connections.

Engineering

Engineering Permits are required for new construction, replacement, repair, or alterations of paving, curbing, and storm drainage work.

Mechanical

Mechanical Permits are required for new construction, the replacement, repair, or alteration of mechanical systems in structures.

Plumbing

Plumbing Permits are required for all plumbing work, including:

  • Backflow preventers
  • Drains
  • New construction
  • Related fixtures and appliances, which includes:
    • Gas lines
    • Installation of fire and lawn sprinkler systems and associated piping to flammable liquids
    • Propane tanks
  • Sewage disposal systems
  • Water mains
  • Water service

Expired Permits

  • Permits are valid for 180 days from the date issued or 90 days after the last approved inspection.
  • If your permit expires, a new permit application and permit fee will be required (FBC 105.10.3.1).M

Contractor Regisration

  • All contractors must be registered with the city of Apopka.
  • The individual signing the permit applications must be qualified in accordance with the city, county, and state codes.
  • All contractors must submit a current certificate of insurance for workers' compensation showing the city of Apopka as the certificate holder.
  • The certificate should include the:
    • Insured’s name
    • Company name and address
    • Policy number
  • The insurance certificate must include a policy number; we will not accept a pending or TBA status.
  • If worker’s compensation exempt, submit a copy of the approved worker’s compensation exemption from a card issued by the State Department of Labor
  • All contractors must submit a copy of their current State certified license or registration and Orange County competency license for the type of work being performed.
  • The license and insurance certificate(s) wording of the company and qualifier's name must be the same.
