Oregon Solar Heating and Cooling Installer (STL) License

The Solar Heating and Cooling Installer (STL) License allows you to do the following work:

  • Install and replace solar heating and cooling systems, including:
    • Collectors
    • Heat transfer systems
    • Heat storage
    • Associated piping
    • Solar conversion of existing water heating or cooling systems
  • Piping and related appurtenances applicable to the temperature pressure relief valve
  • Can’t connect a solar heating or cooling system to a potable water source

How to Get the Solar Heating and Cooling Installer (STL) License in Oregon?

  1. Fill out the application form:
  2. Complete a work history document and fill out the experience verification form:
  3. Sign an applicant’s affidavit and choose the preferred examination location
  4. Mail or fax a sealed packet of all the previous documents to:

  5. Schedule, pay, and take the 3 hour 52 question open book examination administered by the Building Codes Division
  6. Expect the license issued by the Building Codes Division via mail
