The Roofing (GS-21) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:

  • Install, alter, or repair roof systems on new or existing roof decks to create a weatherproof and waterproof protective membrane:
    • With or without insulation
    • Using asphalt
    • Pitch
    • Tar
    • Sealants
    • Felt
    • Shakes
    • Shingles
    • Roof tile
    • Slate
    • Urethane
    • Any other approved materials
    • Including the preparatory work necessary to bring a roof deck or an existing roof to a condition where roofing can be installed,sealed or repaired
    • Installing, cutting, shaping, fabricating sheet metal such as cornices
    • Flashing
    • Skylights (excluding alterations to structural framing)
    • Roof coatings
    • Gutters
    • Leaders
    • Rainwater downspouts
    • Pans
    • Prefabricated chimneys
    • Near roof lines
    • Metal flues
    • Roofing projects

How to Get the Roofing (GS-21) Contractor License in New Mexico?

  1. Meet the experience requirement:
    • At least two years of documented experience in the Roofing (GS-21) Contractor field.
  2. Apply for eligibility through PSI©.
  3. Send these documents via mail with the corresponding application fee to:

  4. Once the documents and the eligibility have been approved, schedule and pay for the examination.
  5. Take and pass the following examinations:
    • New Mexico Roofing (GS-21) Contractor Trade Exam.
    • New Mexico Business and Law Examination (PSI©).
  6. After passing the examination, complete the Application for Contractor License and the Construction Industries Division Contractor License Code Bond.
