The Earthmoving Excavation, and Ditching (GS-8) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:

• Perform earthwork associated with or incidental to construction projects regulated by CID
• Use of hand or power tools
• Machines that use air, fluids, or other material under pressure
• Heavy equipment
• Earthmoving, excavating, and ditching activities applicable to the preparation and production of agriculture or maintenance of livestock on a farm or ranch are exempt from licensing requirements
• Excavating activities:
  • Cutting
  • Filling
  • Excavating
  • Grading
  • Trenching
  • Backfilling
  • Boring

How to Get the Earthmoving, Excavation, and Ditching (GS-8) Contractor License in New Mexico?

1. Meet the experience requirement:
   • At least two years of documented experience in the Earthmoving, Excavation, and Ditching (GS-8) Contractor field.
2. Apply for eligibility through PSI©.
   • Fill out the Qualifying Party Certificate.
   • Complete the Work Experience Certificate.
3. Send these documents via mail with the corresponding application fee to:

4. Once the documents and the eligibility have been approved, schedule and pay for the examination.
   • To apply online, the candidates must:
     1. Sign in or create an account on the PSI© official website.
     2. Enter zip code for exam locations.
     3. Choose the corresponding examination and add the social security number.
     4. Pay for and schedule the exam.
   • To apply by mail or fax:
     1. Open and check the General Construction Candidate Information Bulletin.
     2. Fill out the New Mexico Contractor Examination Registration Form.
     3. Pay the fees and send the documents via mail or fax to:

5. Take and pass the following examinations:
   • New Mexico Earthmoving, Excavation, and Ditching (GS-8) Contractor Trade Exam
   • New Mexico Business and Law Examination (PSI©)
6. After passing the examination, complete the Application for Contractor License and the Construction Industries Division Contractor License Code Bond.
7. Gather the following documents and send them by mail to PSI©:
   • Contractor License Form
   • CID Contractor License Code Bond
   • Valid Qualifying Party Certificate
   • Examination Passing Scores.
   • Proof of Financial Responsibility Bond
   • Proof of current New Mexico Tax ID number application with a registration certificate or official stamp.
