Electrical and LP Gas
Electrical and LP Gas Classifications are regulated by the Construction Industries Division. Each category has its bureau (Electrical Bureau and LP Gas Bureau).
Electrical Licenses
The New Mexico Electrical Bureau issues contractor licenses and journeymen certificates. To acquire an electrical contractor license, the applicant must have a journeyman certificate for the same trade.

All the electrical trades require two years of experience except for (EE-98), (EL-1), (EE-98J | Part 1 Code Examination), (EE-98J | Part 2 Theory Examination), and (EL-1J), which require four years of experience each.
Steps to apply for Electrical Contractor Licenses
- Select a classification.
- Apply for eligibility through PSI©.
- Complete the Qualifying Party Certificate.
- Fill out the Work Experience Certificate.

- Register or sign in at PSI©.
- Select the exam and add the Social Security Number.
- Pay the fee and schedule the examination.

- After passing the examinations, candidates must gather the following list of documents:
- Passing score exam (Trade and Business & Law)
- Contractor License Form

- Proof of Financial Responsibility Bond
- Proof of current New Mexico Tax ID number application with a registration certificate or official stamp

How to obtain Electrical Journeyman Certificates?
- Choose a journeyman trade.
- Fill out and submit the following documents to PSI©.
- Journeyman Certificate Application.
- Electrical Experience Verification Form.
- Send the information to:

The LP Gas (Liquified Petroleum Gas) Classification is under the regulation of the LP Gas Bureau, whose objective is to ensure safety in equipment, installations, facilities, appliances, structures, and services.
