Nevada Contractor Licensing Procedures and Application Information

The Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) regulates licenses inseveral classifications: Class A General Engineering, Class AB General Engineering and General Building, Class B General Building, and Class C Specialty. All classifications with their scope can be found in the Nevada State Contractors Handbook. Licenses may be issued to individuals, general partnerships, limited partnerships, corporations, limited liability companies, or joint ventures. All applicants must have a minimum of four full years of experience at a journeyman level or as a foreman, supervisor, or contractor in the classification they applied for.

How to Get a Nevada Contractor License?

  1. Obtain a Nevada Business ID before completing the contractor application. To get the business ID, contact the Nevada Secretary of State to complete the application for a Nevada State Business License
  2. Gather the required documents by the Nevada State Contractors Board to submit with the contractor application
  3. Select a license classification from the official list of Nevada State Contractors
  4. Fill out the certification of work experience form to provide proof of past work history. Have a minimum of 4 years of work experience as a journeyman, foreman, supervision employee, or contractor in the specific classification requested within 15 years of filing this application
  5. Submit the completed contractor license application form with all documents
  6. Await an Examination Eligibility form AFTER the application has been submitted and the work experience has been verified
  7. Take and Pass the Business and Law (CMS) and trade exam administered by PSI©
  8. Upon approval of the license by the NSCB, the applicant must submit the license bond indicated on the approval letter and proof of Workers' Compensation Insurance
  9. Issuance of the license is completed by the NSCB and sent via mail to the address of the application
