Nevada Carpentry (C3) Contractor License

The Carpentry (C3) Contractor License allows you to do the following work:

• Maintenance and minor repairs

The Carpentry (C3) Contractor License allows you to perform the work of any of the subclassifications:

• Carpentry and Repairs (C3A)

  • Construction of form work
  • Framing or framed structures
  • Rough carpentry, including the fabrication, installation, and repair of:
    • Subflooring
    • Siding
    • Exterior staircases and railings
    • Roof decking
    • Truss members
    • Sheathing
  • Wood and wood products for structural and finishing purposes such as:
    • Doors
    • Windows
    • Cabinets
    • Fixtures
  • Studs and other members of this Nevada Carpentry and Repairs (C3A) subclassification may be made of:
    • Wood
    • Formed sheet metal
    • Vinyl
    • Aluminum
    • Similar products that emulate traditional milled wood and which may be installed or used with methods of carpentry joinery which do not require welding
• Finish Carpentry (C3B)

  • Install, repair, and finish:
    • Cabinets
    • Sash casing
    • Door casing
    • Wooden flooring
    • Baseboards
    • Countertops and other mill work
  • Finish carpentry (C3B) does NOT include:
    • The installation of ceramic tile
    • Marble
    • Artificial or cultured marble
• Insulation and Weather Stripping (C3C)

  • Material used for the insulation of buildings
  • Application of weather stripping
  • Caulking for the internal control of the effects of weather, including:
    • Installing firestop systems
• Overhead Doors (C3D)

  • Guides
  • Counterweights
  • Tracks
  • Weather stripping
  • Automatic and manual controls
  • All other apparatuses and equipment appurtenant to the efficient installation and operation of overhead doors
• Drywall (C3E)

  • Installation, taping, and finishing of drywall
  • Assemblies
  • Sheathing
  • Acoustical Tile
  • Studs made of sheet metal for the framing of ceilings and nonstructural partitioning

How to Get a Nevada Carpentry (C3) Contractor License?

1. Obtain a Nevada Business ID before completing the Contractor Application. Contact the Nevada Secretary of State to complete the Nevada Business License application to obtain a Business ID
2. Gather the necessary documents requested by the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) and submit them with the contractor application:

   • Select the Carpentry (C3) contractor license from the official list of Nevada State Contractors
   • Give a Signature on the application where requested
   • Experience Documentation
   • Copies of driver's licenses or government-issued IDs
   • Submit a check, cashier's check, or money order payable to NSCB
   • Child Support Information Statement
   • Background Disclosure Statement and Fingerprint Background Waiver forms
   • Financial Statement
   • History of past and current employment
3. Submit the completed Work Experience Certificate Form with one of the following specifications:
   • A current master's degree certificate issued by a government agency or its officially recognized representative in a field substantially similar to the classification applied for
   • Proof of transferable military experience and training
   • Proof of eligibility for Licensure by Endorsement
   • Four Certification of Work Experience Forms (Certificates) are needed for each classification applied for:

     • Total hours of experience (all certificates combined) must be at least four full years (1460 days). Individual certificates can be a maximum of 4 years of experience
     • The certificate must be completed by an employer other than the applicant company. If you are an independent contractor, this must be completed by the client you work for. Dependents can only complete the certificate if they are the employer
     • Each certificate must prove experience in the trades applied for. Certificates that refer to incomplete or actual work performed will not be accepted
     • Any certification found to be false or misleading may be deemed a misrepresentation or omission of material fact in violation of NRS 624.3013(2)
     • Additional documents may be requested from the Board if necessary
4. Fill out and send the Nevada Contractor License Application Form with all of the completed documents
5. Wait for the exam eligibility form once your application has been submitted and your work experience has been verified
6. Complete and pass the Business and Law and trade exam administered by PSI©:
   • Carpentry (C3) trade exam
   • Management Survey Business and Law Exam (CMS)
7. Once the NSCB approves the license, the applicant must provide evidence of the License Bond and workers' compensation insurance referred to in the approval letter
8. License issuance will be completed by NSCB and mailed to the address on the application
