Michigan Maintenance and Alteration Contractor License
The Maintenance and Alteration Contractor Licenses allow you to work on the following types of properties and structures:
- Residential buildings (repair)
- Houses (extensions, additions or subtractions)
- Residential structures (demolition)
- Garage buildings
- Concrete structures
- A detached 1-or-2-family dwelling
- Townhouses of no more than three stories
- The actual scope of work which can be done on these properties depends on the Maintenance and Alteration trade chosen:
- Purchase, rehabilitation and resale of residential properties, and engages in that activity on the same structure more than twice in 1 calendar year, except in the following cases (no need for a license):
- The property is for the person’s own use
- The rehabilitation work is contracted entirely to be done by a different licensee
- The owner of the home employs a person for a work for which they are licensed
How to get the Maintenance and Alteration Contractor License in Michigan?
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Complete 60 hours of approved prelicensure education
- Pay the required fee, and submit the application
- Complete the Maintenance & Alteration Contractor exam (depending on the classification choosen above)
